[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”||0px|||” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]JERUSALEM, PALESTINE May 19, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently provided 900 iftar meals to Palestinians breaking their fast at the Al-Aqsa mosque during Ramadan.
The iftar, or meal to break the fast, took place on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, 2022, during the last ten nights of Ramadan. These days are considered to be the holiest days of the month. Muslims believe that feeding a fasting person is a virtuous act rewarded by God, and rewards are multiplied during the last ten nights of Ramadan.
According to Baitulmaal program manager Elizabeth Sohail, the overwhelming response by donors enabled the charity to provide iftar meals for a second night.
“We were humbled by the number of people wanting to provide a meal for Palestinians during Ramadan,” Sohail said. “It is a beautiful thing to see people wishing others well and supporting them during difficult times.”
Palestinians face increased harassment and raids on the Al-Aqsa mosque at the hands of occupation forces during the month of Ramadan. Similar intrusion on the mosque compound last year led to the bombardment of Gaza, which killed more than 250 people, including 66 children.
