We’re sorry we missed your call, but…

Assalaamu alaikum,

We recently moved to a larger office space to accommodate Baitulmaal’s phenomenal growth. Last year we provided 104% more humanitarian aid than we did in the previous year. That is truly amazing and we thank Allah (swt) and our donors for enabling Baitulmaal to turn your compassion into hope for people in need around the world.

During our move, we did have one hiccup. We are upgrading our phones to help us provide better service to our donors, but in the process of this upgrade our phones went down. This means that some donors who were trying to reach us by phone were unable to.

We apologize for any inconvenience this caused you. We should be able to receive phone calls now, but please email info@birelief.org if you don’t get through. We will respond to you promptly.

We’re still in the process of upgrading our phone system, so the lines may go up and down over the next week But after that, we will be much better equipped to answer the call to service, insha’Allah.

I thank you for your patience and continued support.

With compassion,
Mazen Mokhtar

IBB, YEMEN, February 12, 2020 —Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian relief agency, recently completed a winter blanket distribution in war-torn Yemen where internally displaced Yemenis are struggling with cold weather without adequate shelter.

Yemenis fleeing the violence often leave their homes with little more than the clothes they are wearing. When they find a community of fellow displaced families, there is rarely shelter available. Many Yemeni families have to craft together shelters from debris they find nearby.

In these conditions, winter months are especially difficult. Baitulmaal worked with its partners and field workers inside Yemen to distribute 400 blankets to 100 displaced families in Ibb, Yemen.

“It gets cold in Ibb, especially at night,” said Elizabeth Sohail, programs manager for Baitulmaal. “These families need winter assistance as well as food, medicine and other aid and we feel blessed to have donors who help us make these deliveries possible.”

Baitulmaal recently funded a medical mission with IMANA Medical Relief that provided healthcare screenings, treatments and medicine to more than 900 displaced Yemenis. Baitulmaal was also featured in news outlets across the country for sponsoring a cross-country bike ride to raise awareness and funds for humanitarian relief in Yemen.

Stove Heaters Warm Classrooms in Syria

Baitulmaal · January 23, 2020 ·

IDLIB, SYRIA, January 23, 2020 — Baitulmaal field workers recently finished installing gas stove heaters for around 560 students in three schools inside war-torn Syria.

According to the Assistance Coordination Unit “Schools in Syria” report, parents are reluctant to send their children to school because many schools in Syria are poorly equipped or damaged from the conflict. This leaves children at risk of losing interest in education, which may significantly limit their opportunities later in life.

An estimated 2.1 million children and youth no longer attend school in Syria because of the ongoing civil war. Roughly 3.3 million who do attend school need educational assistance.

Before the war, Syria had a good educational system. By 2011, 91% of children ages 6 to 11 were enrolled in school. By 2015, that rate plummeted to 37% because of the war (source: UNESCO).

Baitulmaal representatives said such educational support makes a significant, positive impact for Syrian children struggling to survive and thrive amidst the conflict.

“When schools don’t have heaters to warm the classrooms, students are either less likely to attend or they have difficulty concentrating,” said Elizabeth Sohail, Programs Manager for Baitulmaal. “These new heaters are bringing new life into these classrooms and hope for over 500 students in Syria.”

Sohail said Baitulmaal previously delivered another school-support aid package of solar power systems and computers for schools inside Syria. She said anyone interested in supporting this effort can do so through the Baitulmaal website at birelief.org/donate.

Somalia Hospital is Expanding, Medical Storage

Baitulmaal · January 16, 2020 ·

Good news! Bandiiradley Hospital in Somalia is adding a new building with three temperature-controlled storage units that will store medical supplies and medications at three different temperatures. This is a major upgrade that will greatly increase the hospital’s capacity for treating patients.

You can be a part of this growth with a generous donation today.

The rural town of Bandiiradley is located in central Somalia. The closest hospital is approximately 70 km (43.5 miles) from Bandiiradley. With poverty widespread in the region, people without access to cars have no way to seek emergency medical care. To make matters worse, the privatization of Somalia’s healthcare system has made medical care financially inaccessible for most living in such poverty.

At Bandiiradley Hospital, doctors perform more than 21,000 patient assessments and treatments per year, most of whom are pregnant women and children.

Join the effort to provide healthcare for vulnerable Somalis. Give generously today.
